Uzeyir Hajibeyov Research Fellowship
Through the Uzeyir Hajibeyov Research Fellowship, the Karabakh Foundation sponsors research on subjects related to the history of Azerbaijan and the Caucasus, the Azerbaijani language, traditions, arts, cuisine, music, ancient architecture, literature, and important figures. One year fellowships are open to scholars who are engaged in the research phase of doctoral studies and for scholars whose Ph.D. or equivalent professional training has been completed within the past 10 years.
Fellowship recipients will be selected based on the proposed research project and its relevance to the Karabakh Foundation’s mission. Academic standing, scholastic achievement, publications, experience, and letters of reference will be weighed into the decision. Following completion of their fellowship year, fellowship recipients are required to submit a brief report on the studies accomplished as part of this fellowship in English.
To submit a formal application, please provide the following materials:
- Application Letter (title of the project, field of study, a statement of purpose). This letter should be no longer than 1½ pages (475 words)
- Proposal/essays (3,000 words maximum). Indicate description of the project and its importance, including a table of contents, a brief survey of the literature, the progress already made, anticipated time of completion.
- Resume with recent photograph.
- Three signed letters of recommendation (If applicant is a doctoral candidate, one from the student’s thesis adviser.)
- Official transcripts (if doctoral candidate)
- Applicant’s name must be typed at the top of each sheet.

Natavan Visiting Fellows Program
The Karabakh Foundation hosts Visiting Fellows each year as part of its program. Visiting Fellows are scholars and practitioners who wish to conduct research and write about the history of Azerbaijan and the Caucasus region, the Azerbaijani language, traditions, arts, cuisine, music, ancient architecture, literature, important figures, and conflict resolution pertaining to the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan.
This program hosts visitors from the U.S. in Azerbaijan for a limited period (maximum 3 weeks) of time but who do not need any financial assistance.
The Visiting Fellows will receive a stipend and travel support, the Karabakh Foundation is able to provide use of archives, libraries and organize meetings and events in Azerbaijan. Natavan Visiting Fellows have the opportunity to participate in many events during their visit, and to interact with scholars and well-known experts in Azerbaijan.
If you are interested in the Natavan Visiting Fellows Program, it is recommended that you first send a preliminary e-mail of inquiry to the address fellowship@KarabakhFoundation.org, including a brief summary of your project, the desired dates of the fellowship and a C.V./resume, in order to determine space availability.
There is no deadline for applying: to receive timely consideration, inquiries and applications must be received at least six months in advance of the proposed starting date of the fellowship.

* A five-to-ten-page, double-spaced, typewritten description of the research project, including: 1) its significance for advancing the theory or practice of democracy; 2) how it relates to your background and interests;
* An indication of the preferred starting date and desired duration of the fellowship;
* A current C.V.;
* Two letters of reference (to be sent directly by the referees to our office).
